Fowler Commits to The 2020 Honda Classic
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL – Rickie Fowler, the 2017 Honda Classic Champion and one of golf’s great fan favorites, has committed to play in the 2020 Honda Classic, a PGA TOUR event which will be played February 24-March 1 at PGA National Resort & Spa.
Fowler joins a world-class field which already includes world No. 1 and PGA champion Brooks Koepka, No. 10 Justin Rose, No. 11-ranked Tommy Fleetwood and British Open champ Shane Lowry.
The Classic in The Palm Beaches has been good to Fowler. He posted weekend scores of 66-67 last year and only missed a playoff when champion Keith Mitchell holed a 15-foot putt on the final hole. The share of second place was Fowler’s third top 10 finish in four years at The Classic in The Palm Beaches and marked his 14th runner-up finish on the PGA TOUR.
Fowler has been fine-tuning his swing with new coach John Tillery in recent months and is seeing results. He started 2020 with a fifth-place finish at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and a tenth place finish at The American Express.
In 2019, Fowler picked up his fifth PGA TOUR title in Phoenix and qualified for the Fed Ex playoffs for the tenth consecutive season with six Top 10 finishes and 18 made cuts in 20 starts.
He has lofty goals for this season.
“For me, a multiple-win year,” Fowler said. “That’s really where my goals start. It’s not necessarily cuts made or top-10s, Top-5s. I want wins. So that’s what would define a successful year.
“So got to start with the first one and go from there. But a multiple-win season would be nice. Obviously, make one of those a major and it’s a really good year.”
Players have until Friday February 21 to commit to play in The Classic in The Palm Beaches..
