Honda Classic 5k Returns to PGA National with Place of Hope as New Charitable Partner
The Classic in The Palm Beaches 5K, a recreational run around the cart paths of the back nine of The Champion course at PGA National Resort & Spa, returns at 7:30 a.m. January 19, 2019 with a new charitable partner.
Place of Hope, which provides family-style foster care and other services for children and families who have been traumatized by abuse and neglect, will team with The Classic in The Palm Beaches and Honda Classic Cares on the race which has become one of the favorite recreational running events of the year in Palm Beach County.
“Having the Place of Hope agree to become our charitable partner for the 5K combines a great philanthropic organization in Palm Beach County with an enormous following along with The Classic in The Palm Beaches, Palm Beach County’s largest sporting charitable event,” said Honda Classic Executive Director Kenneth R. Kennerly. “Our charitable vision is aligned well as both organizations help thousands of children in Palm Beach County. Together we will grow the race and the impact that it makes.”
Runners in the Honda Classic 5K tour the grounds that will host the best golfers in the world February 25-March 3, 2019 in the namesake PGA TOUR event. The race course includes the famed Bear Trap, holes 15-17 which is one of the most difficult three-hole stretches on the PGA TOUR.
The Classic in The Palm Beaches 5K is a continuation of the tournament’s efforts to stage a year-round series of diversified events which positively impact the Palm Beach County, Treasure Coast and South Florida communities.
“The Classic in The Palm Beaches has always been a great supporter of children in our community,” said Place of Hope Founding CEO Charles L. Bender III. “I am so thankful for the incredible support The Classic in The Palm Beaches has provided Place of Hope over the years and am excited for this new partnership through The Classic in The Palm Beaches 5K. Lives will be changed forever.”
Place of Hope is celebrating its 17th anniversary in 2018. With campuses in Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach, Hobe Sound, Port St. Lucie and Boca Raton, Place of Hope is a faith-based, state-licensed children’s organization that provides family-style foster care (emergency and long-term); family outreach and intervention; maternity care; safety for domestic minor sexually trafficked victims; transitional housing and support services for aged out or otherwise homeless youth; adoption and foster care recruitment and support; hope and healing opportunities for children and families who are victims of abuse and neglect. Proceeds from the Honda Classic 5K will go towards Place for Hope’s fight against human trafficking.
The Classic in The Palm Beaches Cares initiative awarded a record-shattering $4.55 million to South Florida children’s charities in 2018. It was the 12th consecutive year the PGA TOUR event has been able to increase its impact on the lives of local children and their families.
